Gifted & Talented (G&T) Education
Governor Stirling Senior High School has had a rich academic tradition since its inception. The Gifted and Talented (G&T) education program has enhanced this tradition since 1994.
The Governor Stirling Senior High School Academic Gifted and Talented program provides a differentiated curriculum for academically gifted students in four learning areas: English, Mathematics, Science and Society & Environment.
The program promotes academic rigour and challenges our gifted and talented students to achieve excellence in specific curriculum fields.
What We Offer You
Students are able to interact in a challenging, intellectual environment in specific curriculum fields. The program provides opportunities for critical analysis, and emphasises higher-order thought processes (ie. Application, analysis, synthesis, evaluation). In addition, students are offered a variety of enrichment opportunities such as Tournament of Minds, National and State mathematics competitions, debating competitions, a Year 10 trip to Canberra each year visiting the Deep Space Communications Complex and CSIRO workshops; and a focus on engineering enabled through our strong links with tertiary institutions, business and industry.
Governor Stirling SHS provides additional opportunities for students, including the “Follow the Dream Program”, specialist programs in Australian Rules Football, Netball, Dance and Music. Flexibility is available for students to study a variety of programs that can be tailored to meet student needs.
G&T students have specific pastoral care services, in addition to services normally afforded to students at Governor Stirling SHS. This ensures that the needs of all students can be met through targeted support.
